United Nations invites unemployed individuals who meet all the necessary criteria to apply for the Internships Programme 2025

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support project management, including backstopping implementation of project activities and monitoring for the work undertaken by UNEP in the SADC region.
  • Assist with the organisation of meetings and outreach events, and high-level Forums; (Workshops, Webinars, Retreats, etc.) and World Environment Day (WED) commemorations, for Environmental Sustainability by preparing meeting agendas, summaries, minutes and follow up communications as required.
  • Support Advocacy Campaigns (Education/Awareness/Sensitizations/Trainings) geared to elevate environmental issues to the same level/s as social and economic issues in each of the 16 SADC Member States.
  • Developing necessary background materials, sourcing appropriate speakers, and report writing.
  • Assist in preparing concept notes and short briefings across UNEP’s programmatic areas.
  • Assist in the development of communication and outreach materials such as stories, social media posts and newsletters highlighting the work and results of UNEP South Africa Office; Undertake any additional duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the Head of UNEP South Africa office, and in accordance with the Interns’ interests and experience.

Qualifications/Special Skills:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent)
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
  • Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship
